For Preschoolers

Northcoast Children’s Services preschool classrooms provide opportunities for your 3-5 year old child to explore and experiment with a variety of materials and activities that are just right for his/her age and developmental level.  Preschool programs give your child the opportunity to spend time with other children, begin sharing and learning cooperation skills that will help them be successful in school. While Head Start programs are free to eligible families, State Preschool may charge a daily family fee depending on family income and family size.

Head Start and State Child Care Preschool

These classrooms operate 5 days a week year round for Head Start and State income eligible families with a need for care like employment, school, or other need. State Child Care programs may have a daily family fee may apply depending on family income.  These programs are located in Eureka and Fortuna.

Head Start and State Preschool

These classrooms operate 3 to 5 days a week for 3.5 hour sessions a day with a summer break.  These programs are offered in Crescent City, Trinidad, Mckinleyville, Arcata, Blue Lake, Willow Creek, Orleans, Eureka, Fortuna and Redway.

Head Start and State Preschool with extended hours

These classrooms operate 4 days a week 7 hours a day with morning and afternoon sessions with a summer break and currently operate in Crescent City, Mckinleyville, Arcata, and Eureka.

Head Start Home Base Preschool 

HS Home Base programs offer services to families with children from age 3 to 5 in their homes once per week.  The Home Visitor comes to each family’s home to work with the parents and child on Child Development and Family Goals. Weekly visits typically last for 1 ½ hours and include time for the parent and child to engage in school readiness activities, as well as an opportunity for goal setting and information sharing in areas like nutrition, wellness and parenting and family life skills.

Playgroups, where parents and children socialize with other parents and children in a classroom environment, are offered twice monthly for Home Based families. These Playgroups help prepare your child for a center program or kindergarten.  Parents also have the opportunity to attend Parent Meetings once a month which are focused on parenting and health family life development.

Head Start Home Base is currently offered in Crescent City, Arcata, Eureka, and Fortuna. Home Visitors also serve families in communities surrounding their center.
